On Tuesday 21stJune, 2016 the Christian Youth Association of Malawi (CYAMA) was part of a Forum on Youth and Students Development Programming which took place at the Pacific Hotel in Lilongwe.
The aim of the meeting was to track the Malawi Youth Charter (MYC) and of course National Youth Policy (NYP) as policy and legal instrument. The event was organized with support from the State of the Union (SOTU).
Speaking at the event, Executive Director of the National Youth Council of Malawi (NYCOM), Mr. Aubrey Chibwana pointed out a number of issues pertaining to youth development and participation in Malawi. He said that young people are window of opportunities and a resource to drive the engine. He also mentioned what the council has done in terms of progress and challenges.
The NYCOM Director also urged the youth to read the charter and the youth policy and start implementing programs outlined. He mentioned 7 specific thematic working groups such as; Youth Participation and Leadership; Education for Youth; Youth, Health and Nutrition; Youth Economic Empowerment; Youth in Science, Technology and Environment; Social Services, Recreation, Sports and Culture; National Youth Service
The event was attended by students and members of the various youth organizations and the media.
