The Lilongwe CSO network has been revamped after a long while of dormancy. The leadership that was there which included NICE among others met and discussed on the way forward to make the Network active again as they saw that the Civil Society were lacking direction in coordinating their activities within the district.
At the meeting which convened on 20 May 2022 at The River Side Hotel in Lilongwe, the participants elected new leadership to the Network which saw the following new leaders elected;
Chairperson: African Windmill Project
Vice Chairperson: World Vision
Secretary: Habitat for Humanity
Vice Secretary: FEDOMA
Treasurer: Grass root Movement for Development
The newly elected Chairperson emphasized that the Network need to put its house in order and as a starting point they need to elect members of the committee from the different sectors that the CSOs work in. Each sector has to propose the names of the members that they want to represent them.
LICSONET was established in 2013 after the realization of lack of coordination among the CSOs in the district. Regardless of a succession of leaderships over the years, the Network has not been active enough to provide relevant checks and balances to the District Council, hence the decision by some of the members to restart.
