Executive Director for Council of Non-Governmental Organisations in Malawi – CONGOMA Mr. Ronald Mtonga has urged newly elected Regional Committee members for Central Region to execute their duties different by exploring other opportunities in order to make the committee vibrant. Mr. Mtonga said this in Lilongwe on 8 May 2020 where CONGOMA Secretariat organised an orientation meeting with regional committee members at Sunbird Lilongwe Hotel.
In his remarks, Mr. Mtonga encouraged the committee members to come up with joint activities and find potential Development Partners to support the combined efforts in order to remain relevant in their operations.
The meeting was among other things aimed at orientating Regional Committee members on the structure of CONGOMA, roles and functions of CONGOMA, duties of Regional Committee and functions of District Networks.
On duties of Regional Committee CONGOMA secretariat highlighted that the committees exist to; promote Regional NGO activities, facilitate coordination between NGOs in the Region and the Region office, present the interests of NGOs working within the Region to the Governing Council, and oversee the management of the Regional Office.
Welcoming the development, one of the committee members Alianfe Sibande from Association of People with Albinism (APAM) expressed gratitude for the well explained roles for she had no idea of what was expected of her to deliver being in the Regional Committee for the Centre.
Taking his turn, Chairperson for the Region Committee Mr. Hester Nyasulu thanked CONGOMA Secretariat for organizing the orientation workshop and he requested his fellow committee members to think of ideas that will help to boost the Region.
CONGOMA conducts Regional Committee elections every year as stipulated in the CONGOMA Constitution where committee members are supposed to serve for a year.
