CONGOMA CONDUCTS SOCIAL ENTERPRISE TRAININGS FOR NGOs IN THE COUNTRY
CONGOMA has just finished carrying out Social Enterprise Trainings for NGOs across the three regions of the country. The trainings, which were funded by the NGO funding from NGO Regulatory Authority, NGORA, were designed to empower NGOs with the knowledge, tools, and strategies to innovate, generate income, and enhance sustainability through social enterprise models.
In December 2023, CONGOMA developed a policy paper highlighting the powerful synergy between civil society organizations (CSOs) and social enterprises. By combining mission-driven development with business acumen, NGOs can unlock new pathways for impact and sustainability.
The trainings attracted the attendance of Executive Directors and CEOs, Resource Mobilisation Specialists, Programme and Project Managers, Finance and Grant Managers, M&E Managers, Fundraising and Business Development Officers from different NGOs across the country.
The content in the trainings included ; Understanding and managing change through Social Enterprise, designing and launching a Social Enterprise (legal registration), accessing and managing Social Enterprise financing, sustaining Social Enterprises in Malawi’s local context.
The training also included practical experience sharing from other NGOs already practicing Social Enterprise in the Malawi context. These NGOs were strategically selected from the three regions of North, Centre and south in the country.
speaking at the opening of the first session of the trainings in Lilongwe, The CEO of NGO Regulatory authority, Dr Felix Lombe pointed out that the shrinking donor basket has made it critical for NGOs to explore alternative financing models that are relevant and effective for continuation sake. "By combining mission-driven development with business principles, NGOs can unlock new pathways for impact, resilience and sustainability.
The trainings started in Lilongwe, Central region on 24th February to 25th February 2026, then Mzuzu, Northern Region, from 4th to 5th March, 2026 and ended with Blantyre, Southern region on 10th to 11th March, 2026.
